By January 30, 2020No Comments3 min read

For a healthy body and sound mind, water is almost as important as air. From the glow of your skin to the proper functioning of your organs, water truly is the elixir of life. Therefore, before we dive into 😂 the easy way to increase your water intake, let’s take a look at the recommended intake guidelines.

Recommended Intake

You have probably heard the notion that a healthy adult should strive to drink around 8 cups (64 ounces) of water daily. However, the National Academy of Medicine actually recommends a daily water intake of 90 ounces for women and 125 ounces for men – these numbers vary based on your daily activity levels, climate and general health.  While we are hydration superfans here at Power Hour 360, we hear many clients tell us they are struggling to get their minimums in.

1.    Fill up before Every Meal

If you are trying to drink more water, make it a habit to consume a glass or two before every meal. This will not only allow you to drink sufficient water throughout the day but will also help you eat less and feel fuller sooner.

2.    Use an App

There are hundreds of apps that can help you keep track of your daily water intake. All you need to do is download one on your phone and it will remind you to drink water throughout the day. There are a bunch out there that make it a fun game & help keep hydration top of mind.

3. Chug While You Wait

Keep a refillable bottle handy and chug every time you are waiting. For instance, take a swig while you wait for your coffee to brew (this is actually brilliant as it reduces the acid impact your coffee has on your stomach) or sip, sip, sip while you are in line at the grocery store or at a red light. This small habit will make a big difference in your life!

4.    Choose Water over Soda Always!

While it may seem like you are hydrating when drinking any liquid, soda is actually very high in sugar and calories, generally unhealthy for the body and actually increases dehydration. If you find water boring so reach for soda whenever you are thirsty, try adding lemon, lime or a natural low-calorie flavor boost to kick your unhealthy soda habit over to healthy, delicious water.

5.    Eat Foods with High Water Content

A sneaky way to keep your body hydrated is to consume foods that are high in water content. So, if you are not a fan of drinking water, you can eat your way to fulfill your body’s fluid needs! Some water-rich foods include watermelon, celery, cucumbers, tomatoes, spinach, lettuce, peaches, oranges, apples, and strawberries.
